SEASON PREVIEW: Latta Football Team Prepares For Another Season of Football

The Latta Vikings are preparing for another season of football in Region 6, 1 A under the leadership of Head Coach Brandon Iseman.
The Latta Vikings football coaching staff returns this year with the exception of Pierce Watson. Mike Donald is a newcomer to the program. He will be in charge of the defensive backs. Matt Caulder is the offensive coordinator, Freddie Sawyer is coaching the offensive linemen, Brandon Page is the defensive linemen coach, Robbie Brown is the wide receivers, and Chris Page is the running backs coach.
The Latta Vikings are coming off of an overall record of 5-6 for the 2024-2025 season.
After losing 13 seniors from last year, one would expect Latta to be low in experience which may be the case in certain positions. However, with good coaching and guidance from the seniors who have always done a great job holding the expectations of the Latta football program, the team should be able to compete competitvely again this year with the schools Latta’s size.
Latta is very experienced at the running backs, line backers, and the offensive and defensive linemen positions. In fact, the Vikings have three returning starters and two new starters on the offensive line. Latta will return eight of the eleven starters from last year on the defense. The Vikings are returning starters at the defensive tackle positions but will have new players as defensive ends. The offense has some talented youth as receivers. Latta is experienced with depth as running backs.
Although Latta lost Jamarion Jones who rushed for 1600 yards last season, the Latta running backs are physical downhill runners.
Latta’s field goal kicker and kick-off specialist from last year, Conley Dailey, was one of the best in the area. In fact, he was back-to-back special teams’ player of the year. Therefore, he will be difficult to replace. Presently it is a work in progress.
Latta is uncertain about the special teams as they are a work in progress.
Latta lost a great running back as Makinley Wallace graduated. The starting quarterback position is a mixture of your and experience competing for the job.
Many of Latta’s skill players will play both ways, defensive and offensive.
Although Latta is young as the skill positions, defensive backs and wide receivers, Latta should be okay as their is a big senior class.
With each practice, Latta is becoming stronger each day.
The seven members of the Class A region are Latta, Carvers Bay, Green Sea Floyds, Hannah-Pamplico, Hemingway, Johnsonville, and Lake View.
Latta will open the regular football season at home on Friday, August 22 against East Columbus. On August 29, Latta host Marion and on September 5, the Latta Vikings will find themselves at McBee. Latta will travel to Mullins on September 12. Latta will be at Green Sea Floyds on September 19. Latta will have a bye week on September 26. Carvers Bay will be at Latta on October 3. Latta will travel to Hemingway on October 10. Lake View will be at Latta on October 17 for the annual in-county rivalry game. Latta will host Hannah-Pamplico on 10/24. Latta will be on the road again to Johnsonville on 10/31.
