The Latta Vikings edged the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders 6-4 in varsity baseball playoffs held in Latta on Thursday, May 14.
After 2 scoreless innings, the Raiders managed a run in the top of third inning to take a slim 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third inning, the Vikings responded with 2 runs to take a 2-1 lead. After scoreless innings 4 and 5, the Raiders once again placed 3 runs onto the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Latta responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to go up 6-4 for the final score of the game.
Hannah-Pamplico had 6 hits in the game while Latta had 3 hits.
The Raiders’ S. Morris had 2 singles and scored a run in his 3 at-bats. D. Chandler had a hit and 3 rbi in his 4 at-bats. D. Kimbrough had a single, a rbi, and stole a base in his 4 at-bats. Zack Rhames had a single, was hit by a pitch, and scored a run in his 4-plate appearances. Matthew Richardson had a single in his 4-at bats.
Hannah-Pamplico committed 3 errors in the game.
The Raiders’ Jonah Poston began on the mound. He pitched 5 innings and allowed 3 hits, 6 runs of which 2 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 9 of the 23 batters he faced. Payton Farmer pitched 1 inning and allowed no runs and walked 1 of the 3 batters he faced.
Latta’s Fisher Richardson had a double, a rbi, and scored a run in his 3 at-bats. Luke Huggins had a rbi and scored a run in his 3-plate appearances. Bryson Berry had a rbi in his 3-plate appearances. Mason Weatherford had a single and a rbi in his 3 at-bats. BW Berry had a single, a walk, and scored a run in his 3-plate appearances. Caden Hyatt and Zach Lane each garnered a walk.
Latta’s Logan Byrd pitched 5.2 innings and allowed 5 hits, 4 earned runs, walked 4, and struck out 6 of the 30 batters he faced. Noah Cook pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 of the 5 batters he faced.
