A MOMENT IN HISTORY: Mary Elma Moody Was Dillon County’s First Female Auditor

Mary Elma Moody was Dillon County’s first female auditor serving from 1959-1967. She was appointed by Governor Ernest Hollings to fill the unexpired term of her husband, Avery Tapley Moody, Sr., who died while in office. At the end of that term, she was elected auditor. She was a member of Dillon First Baptist Church. Mrs. Moody passed away in October 2003 at the age of 95.
