The Hannah-Pamplico Raiders defeated the Latta Vikings 15-11 in varsity baseball action played in Latta on Friday, April 24.
After the top of the first inning, the Raiders were up 4-0. However, Latta responded with 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning to lead by 1 run. Hannah-Pamplico tacked on 4 runs in the top of the second inning to go up by 3 runs, 8-5. After 2 innings of play, the Raiders were up 8-5. In the top of the third inning, Hannah-Pamplico added 4 runs to to up 12-5. Latta had 3 players cross home plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut Hannah-Pamplico’s lead to 15-8. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Latta added 3 runs with the final score of 15-11 in favor of the Raiders.
Hannah-Pamplico’s Mason Smith pitched 4.2 innings. He allowed 3 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 4, and struck out 8 of the 21 batters he faced. Jackson Fitch pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 4 hits, 5 earned runs, walked 4, and struck out 1 of the 12 batters he faced. Zack Rhames pitched 1 inning and allowed 3 hits, 3 earned runs, walked no one, and struck out no one of the 7 batters he faced.
Hannah-Pamplico connected for 15 hits in the game with Mason Smith who led the Raiders with a double, 2 singles, and scored 2 runs. Jonah Poston had a home run, a single, 4 rbi, a stolen base, and scored 2 runs in his 5 at-bats. Matthew Richardson, Dewey Kimbrough, Daniel Chandler, Shane Morris, and Zack Rhames each had 2 hits in the game.
The Raiders did not commit an error in the game, and Latta was guilty of 2 errors.
Latta’s Mason Weatherford pitched 1.2 innings and allowed 8 hits, 8 runs of which 4 were earned, walked 3, and struck out no one of the 17 batters he faced. JJ Welch pitched 4.1 innings and allowed 4 hits, 3 runs of which 2 were earned, walked no one, and struck out 5 of the 18 batters he faced. Logan Byrd pitched 1 inning and allowed 3 hits, 4 earned runs, walked 2, and struck out 1 of the 17 batters he faced.
Latta had 9 hits in the game with Fisher Richardson 2 singles, 2 rbi, 2 walks and scored 2 runs in his 5 plate appearances. Bryson Berry had 2 singles, a rbi, and scored a run in his 4 at-bats. Caden Hyatt, Luke Huggins, BW Berry, Mason Weatherford, and Logan Byrd each had a hit in the game.
Latta’s, Zach Lane, JJ Welch, Luke Huggins, and BW Berry each had a stolen base.
