The Latta Vikings shut out the Branchville Yellow Jackets 18-0 in varsity baseball playoffs held in Latta on Tuesday, May 5.
Latta placed 3 runs onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning and added 15 runs in the second inning to claim the win in the run-ruled shortened game.
Latta connected for 10 hits in the game with Fisher Richardson with 3 hits including a double, 2 singles, 2 rbi, and scored 3 runs in his 3 at-bats. Caden Hyatt added a double, a single, 2 rbi, and scored a run in his 3 at-bats. Zach Lane had a double, a walk, and scored a run in his 3-plate appearances. #5, Bryson Berry, J. Durant, L. Huggins, and Logan Byrd each had a single.
Fisher Richardson and #13, BW Berry, each had 2 stolen bases while Zach Lane, Josiah Durant, and Logan Byrd each had a stolen base.
Latta did not commit an error in the game.
Mason Weatherford picked up the win. He pitched 3 innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 1, struck out 6, and did not allow a run.
The Latta Vikings will travel to Bamberg on Wednesday, May 6, to face the Bamberg-Ehrhardt Red Raiders.
