Latta Wins The 1 A Baseball State Championship

The Latta Vikings won the 1 A Baseball State Championship 3-2 Over the McBee Panthers in the third game of the series played at South Florence High School on Saturday, May 30.
RW Berry picked up the win. He pitched 7 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, walked 2, hit 1 with a pitch, and stuck out 10 of the 28 batters he faced
The game remained scoreless through 4 and ½ innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Caden Hyatt hit one to right for a single; Josiah Durant had a sac bunt to move Hyatt to second base. Fisher Richardson hit one to left for a double and a rbi to give Latta a 1-0 lead after 5 innings of play.
McBee’s #4 garnered a lead-off walk in the top of the sixth inning. The Panters’ #8 hit one to deep right for a double to place base runners on second and third. With 2 outs and 2 on base, McBee’s #11 received an intentional walk to load the bases. The Panters’ #2 hit a grounder to right with 2 base runners who scored to give McBee a 2-1 lead after 5 and ½ innings of play.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Logan Byrd was hit by a pitch to place him on first base. Danny McDowell came in to run for him. Luke Huggins had a sac hit and broke his bat but the base runner moved to second. Bryson Berry hit a grounder to third, and the base runner moved to third. With 2 outs, Latta’s Zach Lane garnered a walk to place base runners on the corners. Caden Hyatt hit one to right and ended up on third base, and 2 base runners crossed home to give Latta a 3-2 lead after 6 innings of play.
BW Berry faced only 3 batters in the top of the seventh inning, and all three went down swinging.
Each team turned a double play in the game.
Latta’s Caden Hyatt had a double, a single, 2 rbi, and scored a run in his 3 at-bats. Fisher Richardson had 2 singles and a rbi in his 3 at-bats. Bryson Berry had 2 singles in his 3 at-bats.
McBee had 5 hits in the game. #15 had a lead-off single on a hit to center in the top of the third inning. The Panthers’ #5 hit one up the middle for a single in the top of the fourth inning. McBee’s #8 his a grounder up the middle in the top of the fourth inning for a hit. In the top of the sixth inning, McBee’s #4 garnered a walk. #8 hit 1 to deep right for a double. #2 hit 1 to right in the top of the sixth inning.
Latta ended the season with 27 wins and 10 losses.
McBee ended the season with 22 wins, 13 losses, and 1 tie.
