Congressman Russell Fry was the guest speaker at the Dillon Kiwanis meeting on Thursday night. Darryl “Peanut” Miller introduced the congressman. The following is his introduction.
Congressman Russell Fry is proud to serve the Grand Strand and Pee Dee as their Representative for South Carolina’s Seventh Congressional District.
Fry is a true believer in the American Dream. Growing up, he watched his parents work hard for every penny they earned, and since then Fry has done the same. He put himself through his undergraduate education at the University of South Carolina and later earned his laws degree from the Charleston School of Law. While in law school, he served as President of the Student Bar Association, helped the school achieve American Bar Association accreditation, and received the prestigious Civility Award. Following graduation, he practiced law along the Grand Strand for over a decade.
As an Eagle Scout, Fry shares the sentiment that “you should leave your campsite better than you found it.” Every day he strives toward the goal that “we should leave our country better than we found it.” Growing up, he saw firsthand how government decisions directly affect families living paycheck to paycheck, and he remains committed to fighting for those who do no always have a voice.
Prior to serving in Congress, Fry represented State House District 106 (Horry County) in South Carolina’s General Assembly for seven years. He served as Chief Majority Whip, where he championed lower taxes, limited government, pro-Second Amendment legislations, and pro-life policies. He also chaired the House Opioid Abuse Prevention Study Committee, leading to 18 policy initiatives being signed into law and securing record funding for opioid prevention, education, and treatment.
In his first term in the U. S. House of Representatives, he was elected freshman class president. Now serving his second term, Fry sits on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Judiciary Committee and holds leadership roles including serving on Leader Steve Scalise’s Leadership Council, the Speaker Mike Johnson’s Elected Leadership Council, as a Vice Chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), and as a Deputy Whip on Majority Whip Tom Emmer’s team.
Fry is a loving husband to his wife, Bronwen, and a dedicated father to their son, James. Their family lives in Murrells Inlet with their chocolate lab, Jasper.
After the introduction, Congressman Fry gave his remarks. He spoke on various topics including the Save America Act, some of the things going on in Washington, and some of the things he has worked on that impact the state and local area. He has a very good Donald Trump impression. It was a very informative presentation.
