Tackle football is coming back to the City of Dillon Recreation Department.
There has been no tackle football for the last two years in city recreation. Dillon City Manager Glen Wagner said at April’s Dillon City Council meeting that registration will begin on April 15 and ends on May 10th. For 9 & 10 year old tackle football, a child must be 9 years old on or before September 1st and for 11 & 12 year old tackle football, a child must not be 13 on or before September 1st. There is a $35 registration fee.
Wagner said he didn’t feel it was his place to determine what kids should or shouldn’t do.
Registration is being held early so that equipment can be ordered for the upcoming season. He said it is up to the parents to get the kids registered because there is no point in ordering equipment if no kids register. Flyers are also being sent to the schools.
After a decline in youth sports over the past couple of years, Wagner said they noticed that their youth basketball, youth softball, and Kiwanis baseball registration is bigger than it has been in a while, and he believes the same will be true of football registration.
Sign up is being held at the City of Dillon Wellness Center.
Anyone interested in coaching youth football should attend a coaches meeting on April 16th at 6:30 p.m. at the Wellness Center, 1647 Commerce Drive, Dillon.
