Latta High School Retires Jersey Of Rubylee Wright

On Friday, December 9, Latta High School announced the retirement of the jersey of one of their most distinguished student-athletes, RubyLee Wright, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Latta basketball program and the community. The ceremony took place between the varsity girls and varsity boys basketball games.
The ceremony celebrated RubyLee’s remarkable achievements on the court, her leadership, and the lasting legacy she has left for future generations of athletes at Latta.
RubyLee Wright played for the Georgetown Hoya and started in 34 contests in 2010-11 as a junior. She averaged 7.7 points per game and was ranked fourth. She led Georgetown with 169 assists for a 5.0 average per game average. She won the Nicole Arwood Assist Award at the annual team banquet.
Wright was named a captain. She was 13th on the all-time list for 3-pointers with 79 and seventh in assists with 367. Wright became the all-time leader for assists in a season with 169.
In the 2009-10 season as a sophomore, Wright appeared in all 33 games with 6 starts to her credit. RubyLee Wright led the quad with 128 assists. She had 48 steals and average 5.1 points per game.
As a freshman in 2008-09, she scored 8 points in her first game at Jacksonville.
Ruby Lee Wright was a standout basketball player at Latta High School and scored over 2,500 points and earned the State Player of the Year award. In Wright’s senior year, she averaged 20.4 points per game, 6.7 assists, 4.8 steals, and 4.6 rebounds. She led Latta to a Class A State title in 2007.
After college, she began coaching with Team GBMS (AAU) in Florence, S.C. She also served as an assistant coach at Latta High School. She became an assistant coach at Trinity College (Darlington, S.C.) in 2023.
