The Latta Lady Vikings edged the visiting Hannah-Pamplico Raiders 2-1 in varsity softball playoff action in Latta on Monday, May 19.
The game remained scoreless through 4 and ½ innings of play. Latta got onto the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning with the help of a passed ball.
The pitching duel continued as no one scored in the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh inning, the Raiders crossed home plate to tie the score at 1 on a ground out by Khloe Avant. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Maddie Berry singled, and the Vikings scored the winning run.
Latta managed 4 hits in the game, and Hannah-Pamplico managed 3 hits. Latta committed 1 error while Hannah-Pamplico committed 3 errors in the game.
Maddie Berry picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and struck out 10.
Maddie Berry singled and picked up a rbi in her 3 at-bats while Katelyn Johnson, Samantha Townsend, and Paisley Jackson each garnered a hit in the game. Katelyn Johnson was hit by a pitch.
Hannah-Pamplico’s Kadence Poston was tagged with the loss. She pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 6 hits, 2 runs that were not earned, walked 3, and struck out 7. She faced a total of 30 batters.
Kadence Poston connected for a triple in her 3 at-bats while Payten Poston and Jaden Lee each singled in 3 at-bats. Logan Owens and Meredith Stone each garnered a walk and stole a base. Meredith Stone was also hit by a pitch.
