The Dillon Wildcats won the District Title with a win over the Swansea Tigers in Dillon on Monday, May 11, in varsity baseball action played at Dillon Memorial Stadium.
Dillon managed 9 hits while Swansea managed 11 hits. Each team committed an error in the game.
Dillon’s #17 was on the mound to begin the game.
Swansea’s #7 led off the game with a hit to left for a single followed by a flyout to center by #2. #7 stole second. Swansea’s #13 hit a grounder to third for out 2 that moved the base runner to third. #12 hit a grounder to second for out 3.
Swansea’s #2 was on the mound. Dillon’s #6, led off with a hit to third for out 1. Dillon’s #10, Hank Grider, was it by a pitch. #5, hit one to center for a triple and a rbi to give Dillon a 1-0 lead. #1 hit one to center for a single and a rbi to give Dillon a 2-0 lead. #2, JC Bohachic, flew out to short. #1 stole second. #17 walked to place runners on first and second. #4, Nibras Harrison, struck out watching. Dillon led 2-0 after the first inning of play.
Swansea’s #10 hit one to center for a double. #6 hit one between first and second for a double and a rbi. After 1 and ½ innings of play, Dillon led 2-1.
In the bottom of the second inning, Dillon loaded the bases with 2 outs but were unable to score.
Swansea’s #7 popped up to first for out 1. #2 went down swinging but arrived at first base safely as the ball was bobbled and the throw was late to first. #13 hit one to left for out 2. #12 hit one to right center for a single to place runners on the corners.#5 hit a fly to center for out 3. After 2 and ½ innings, Dillon was up 2-1.
After a grounder to the pitcher by Dillon’s #2 for out 1, Dillon’s #17 garnered a walk. #4, Nibras Harrison, hit one over first for down the base line for a double to place base runners on second and third. #9 hits one to left and ended up on third base with 2 rbi to give Dillon a 4-1 lead. #8 hits hit one to left center for a double and a rbi. Dillon’s #1 arrived safely at first on a very slow dribbler to the pitcher. #10 hits a grounder to short for a fielder’s choice, and the base runner was out at second with the batter safe at first. #5 hit one to center for a single to place base runners on first and second. #1 hit a fly to center for out 3. After 3 innings of play, Dillon was up 6-1.
In the top of the fourth inning, #3 hits a grounder to third for out 1 followed by a grounder to third by #10 for out 2. #6 its one down the third base line for a double. #18 hit a chopper to short for out 3.
In the bottom of the third inning, Dillon went down in 1-2-3 fashion.
After 4 innings of play, Dillon led 6-1.
Swansea’s #7 led off with a walk. #2 hit a grounder to third for out 1 as #7 moved to second. #7 arrived safely at third base. #13 hits a grounder to third and was out at first but the base runner scored. #12 hit one to right for a single. #5 popped up to center for out 3. Dillon led 6-2 after 4 and ½ innings.
Dillon loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single to center by #9, a grounder to third by #2 that the base runner was out at second, #10 hit one to right for a single to place base runners on first and second, #5 was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but a grounder to short for out 3 closed the threat.
In the top of the sixth inning, Swansea’s #3 hits a chopper to third for out 1. #10 hit a fly to center that was dropped. #6 hit a grounder between short and third for his third hit of the game to place runners on first and second. A grounder by third that was caught for the shortstop but the base runner was safe at third as no one was covering the base. With the bases loaded, $7 hit a grounder to second and the base runner was out but a run scored. Base runners were now on the corners. The base runner at first stole second. #2 went down swinging to close out the top of the sixth inning. Dillon led 6-3.
Dillon once again loaded the bases but were unable to score.
After 6 innings of play, Dillon was up 6-3.
Hank Grider took the mound for Dillon in the top of the seventh inning.
Swansea managed to score 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Dillon will host Hanahan on Thursday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m.
