Dillon County Emerging as an Attractive Home Destination

Dillon County is an emerging housing market in the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina. Many factors support the anticipated growth of the county. The county is flanked by interstate I-95 and is the first county entering South Carolina. Dillon County is the most popular path for tourist in route to Myrtle Beach giving it constant exposure to folks considering a move to a more attractive climate. The county enjoys 3 exits off Interstate 95.
The county is poised for an explosion of growth largely due to Industrial activity. The county boasts major employers such as Harbor Freight Tools, Perdue Farm, and Wyman Gordon. The industrial prospects have been exponentially increased by the addition of the Dillon Inland Port. Dillon County was strategically selected for the South Carolina’s second of only two inland ports serviced and owned by the South Carolina Ports Authority in Charleston SC. The first inland port was landed in Greer SC and is serviced by Norfolk Railroad. In 2020, the population in Greer SC was 35,308. Between 2020 and 2023 the population grew by 25.6% to an estimated 44,387.
Dillon County anticipates a similar or greater trajectory with the increasing prospects of new industries and the tightening constraints of development in neighboring, Horry County. Horry and Brunswick County Metropolitan Statistical Area has constantly ranked nationally in the top 3 growing areas in the past decade. The cost of living and ease of doing business further bolster the attractiveness of locating in Dillon County.
Dillon County also enjoys close proximity to Florence County who has enjoyed success in Industrial recruitment. The counties are contiguous connected by I-95 making it a convenient and short commute.
Dillon County is also considering unconventional partnerships to entice builders to consider creating housing subdivision.
