Learning about everything tomatoes, picking up gardening and nutrition/exercise tips, and sampling some great recipes were all a part of Dillon County Clemson Extension’s class on Growing Health: Tomatoes.
Carmen Ketron led the growing tomatoes portion while Justin Foxworth talked about healthy eating and moving more.
Spring planting dates are March 1- April 30 for our area in Dillon County, S.C.
Ketron discussed gardening tips such as watering, fertilizing, pests to be on the lookout for, diseases, varieties, and more.
Foxworth discussed healthy eating including using a 9-inch plate and getting as many colors on a plate as possible, getting 150 minutes of exercise a week, tomato nutrition, healthy portions, and more. He said to always consult a doctor about exercise and diet plans.
Class-goers enjoyed two recipes prepared by Foxworth, Caprese Kabobs and Tomato Basil Bruschetta and got to take home plants and information to start their tomato growing adventure.
Next up, squash. Contact the Dillon County Clemson Extension Office if you are interested in this class as space is limited.
