Bond was denied on Jerzeke McNeil who is charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime for an incident that occurred on April 18, 2023.
Deputy Solicitor Kernard Redmond said the incident occurred in the City of Dillon (near North 12th Avenue and East Jackson Street). He said it was a dispute that escalated and Tyzaveus Gilchrist, 20, of Dillon County was killed. It was an encounter between Gilchrist and his two brothers who were in a vehicle. Video was captured on a neighbor’s security camera. Redmond said that McNeil discharged his weapon several times while the victim was standing and on the ground and after shooting the two brothers in the vehicle. He was eventually arrested in Florence after turning himself in.
McNeil’s attorney said McNeil was 20 when the incident happened and is now age 23. He said it was a gang dispute with the OTG (O-Town Gangsters). The attorney said they had a “beef” with McNeil’s cousin that originally started over a pair of pants. He said McNeil was trying to be a peacemaker and was asking them to stay out of it. The attorney said that the victim and his two brothers arrived in ski masks and had contacted him by cell phone to say they were coming. He said McNeil had been in jail for three years.
Redmond said that in 2020, McNeil had been charged with possession of marijuana and in 2025, McNeil had been charged with throwing bodily fluids on a correction officer. Redmond also noted that in the murder, the victim had been shot 12 times.
In May when they meet on the court roster, they will set a date for trial in this case.
The judge denied the bond saying that McNeil presented an unreasonable danger to the community.
