A $50,000 surety bond with conditions was set on a Latta man in General Sessions Court on Monday charged with inflicting great bodily injury upon a child. The incident occurred on December 8, 2024 and involved a two-month-old baby.
Jamison Antwan Jones was charged in the incident. It was stated that the child had brain injury that was consistent with shaken baby syndrome. The arrest warrant stated that the injuries included “several fractures, a subdural hematoma, a torn upper frenulum, and retinal hemorrhaging, as indicated by medical staff and records.” The child is still alive.
It was stated in court that the victim and another child had been left with Jones in his sole care while the mother was out. He called the grandmother’s house and told her to come get the baby because something was wrong.
The State said that he has a past record that includes common law robbery, third degree burglary, and a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.
Jones was arrested on September 30, 2025 for the incident.
The victim’s advocate stated that the child is suffering from lifelong effects from the incident. She asked that if bond was granted that the highest possible bond be set and that there be no contact with the victim.
Jones’ attorney said Jones was 35 years old and presumed innocent under the law. He said while the incident occurred on December 8, 2024, Jones was not arrested until September 30, 2025 over nine months later. He said if Jones wanted to leave, he could have done it. He said Jones gave a statement on the matter on his own at the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office. He said Jones then later gave an additional statement. The attorney said Jones cooperated throughout the investigation. He said that in the past Jones has appeared for court every time, and there was no evidence that he tried to flee.
The attorney said that should Jones get bond that he would be living with his mother and that he would be welcomed back at his job at Campbell’s Carwash. The attorney requested a reasonable bond.
The judge said the two things they must consider when setting bond is 1) Is this person a flight risk? and 2) Is this person a danger to society which means is he so reasonable that there are no other viable means that keeping him in jail?
The judge found that Jones, who has been in custody for the past six and a half months, was entitled to a $50,000 surety bond. He is to have no contact with the victim or the minor children. He is also not to have unsupervised contact with a minor child.
