WHEREAS, May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to emphasizing the importance of acknowledging and discussing mental well-being for ourselves and others; and

WHEREAS, advocacy is defined by Merriam-Webster as the process of supporting a cause or proposal; and
WHEREAS, normalizing conversations about mental health creates opportunities to validate both our own experiences and those of others, thereby enhancing the efforts of individuals and organizations devoted to mental health well-being in our community; and
WHEREAS, it is essential to view mental health awareness from a holistic perspective, considering mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being alongside the diverse communities to which individuals belong; and
WHEREAS, a critical component of mental health advocacy at the community level includes familiarity with
mental health providers within local, regional, and national contexts; and
WHEREAS, today we shine a spotlight on local mental health providers who support individuals, families, couples, and our community in addressing various mental health-related challenges, including substance misuse, anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and other life stressors;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor N. Tally McColl, do hereby proclaim May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month in the City of Dillon.
