SLED Charges Dillon County Man Following Shooting That Injured Police Officer

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Steve Allen Mason Jr., 33, with two counts of Attempted Murder, two counts of Wounding a Police Officer While Resisting Arrest, two counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime, Breach of Peace – Aggravated in Nature, Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition by a Prohibited Person, and Resisting Arrest on Friday, June 19, 2026.
The Dillon Police Department requested the SLED investigation. Mason Jr. was booked into the Dillon County Detention Center.
The case will be prosecuted by the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. SLED’s investigation is active and ongoing at this time. Anyone with information can call SLED at (866) 472-8477 and/or email tips@sled.sc.gov.
