The South Carolina Aviation Association announced this week that Marion County Airport will host an event April 25th as part of the statewide observance of Aviation Week in the Palmetto State. S.C. Aviation Week this year is April 21-27 with a wide range of events at a dozen airports throughout the state.
Marion County Airport Director Charles Taylor issued an invitation to “those interested in seeing the newly extended runway and refurbished terminal.” He said, “We’re going to cook from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday the 25th and we especially hope our county leaders and our local pilots will attend.” He added that those attending including any pilots flying into the airport on that day will be served a traditional barbecue, chicken bog and slaw meal.
The Marion County Airport runway was recently repaved and an additional 500 feet were added to make the runway one mile long, Taylor said, “Lots of good things are happening at the airport now and a lot more good things are scheduled over the coming months and years. I encourage people to come out and look us over.”
During S.C. Aviation week events are scheduled at the following airports: Berkeley County, Joint Base Charleston, Broxton Bridge, Charleston International, Fairfield County, Greenville-Spartanburg International, Hilton Head Island, Georgetown County, Greenville-Downtown, the Ridgeland-Claude Dean facility and Marion County.
