It was a big opening day at Kiwanis Ball Park as the season kicked off. Lisa Altman, daughter of the late Jerry Douglas, throws out the first pitch to Jerry’s grandson, Cole Altman, to start the Dillon Kiwanis baseball season at the Ray Wilson Field on Monday, April 8, before a huge crowd of players, family, friends, and spectators.
Jerry Douglas was a member of the Dillon Kiwanis Club and a devout Christian who loved and supported his church, Dillon Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Rev. Matt Adams of the First Presbyterian Church of Dillon had prayer followed by the playing of the National Anthem.
Seventeen teams were introduced including the T-Ball teams for the City of Dillon. Each team player and each coach was introduced.
The Dillon Internal Medicine Hurricanes defeated the Dillon Dental Giants 14-1 behind the pitching of Noah Cook and Cain Berry in the first game of the season played at the Ray Wilson Field on Monday, April 8, before a huge crowd of players, family, friends, and spectators.
Noah Cook threw 2 innings and only threw a total of 36 pitches while Cain Berry pitched the final third inning and retired 3 batters with strike-outs.
Terrell McLellan began on the mound for the Dillon Dental Giants. He was relieved by Jaden Hunt in the third inning who was also relieved by #1 in the third inning.
The Hurricanes managed 2 runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed in the game. The Giants were held scoreless in the bottom of the first inning.
IN the top of the second inning, the Dillon Internal Medicine added a run to go up 3-0.
The Dillon Dental Giants managed to score a run in the bottom of the second inning when Za’Maurian PInkney garnered a walk, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on sac hit by #4.
In the top of the third inning, the Dillon Internal Medicine picked up 12 runs.
The Dillon Dental Giants were retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the third inning to end the game.
