Latta Shuts Out Bridges Prep

The Latta Lady Vikings shut out the visiting Bridges Prep Lady Buccaneers in varsity softball playoff action in Latta on Wednesday, April 1.
The Vikings managed 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game. Paisley Jackson connected for a single that scored 2 runs, Emily Smith had a single that scored 2 runs, the Buccaneers committed an error that allowed a run to score, 3 runs scored on a wild pitch, Katelynn Johnson hit a single that scored a run, Emily Smith hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed a run to cross home plate, Jae Miller singled that scored a run, and Erika Roberts garnered a walk that allowed another run to score.
Latta added 7 runs in the bottom of the second inning.
The Vikings’ Maddie Berry picked up the win. She pitched 1 inning and didn’t allow a hit, no runs, walked no one, and struck out 3. Paisley Jackson pitched inning number 2 and did not allow a run as did Erika Roberts who pitched the third inning.
Riley Cowan took the loss for the Lady Buccaneers She started the game, and B. Stevenson came in relief.
Zyeria Wright connected for the lone hit in her 1 at-bat for the Lady Buccaneers.
Bridges Prep committed 3 errors in the game, and Latta committed only 1 error.
The Latta Vikings garnered 14 walks and 7 hits in the game. Katelyn Johnson and Paisley Jackson each had 2 hits, 3 rbi, 2 walks, and scored 3 runs in her 4 plate appearances. Paisley Jackson also had a stolen base in the game. Maddie Berry had a hit, 2 walks, and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances. J. Miller had a hit, a walk, 2 rbi, and scored 2 runs in her 3 plate appearances. Emily Smith had a hit, a walk, 4 rbi, and scored 3 runs in her 3 plate appearances. Chayse Walters garnered 4 walks and stole 2 bases in the game. Erika Roberts had 2 walks, a rbi, and scored 2 runs in her 3 plate appearances. Sarah Bryant had a walk, a rbi, and scored a run in her 2 plate appearances. Katelynn Richardson had a walk and scored a run. Madison Kersey had a rbi in the game. K. Page scored a run.
Latta is 17-4-1 for the season.
