Dillon Wildcats Shut Out Visiting Lake City Lady Panthers

The Dillon Lady Wildcats shut out the visiting Lake City Lady Panthers 6-0 in varsity playoff action in Dillon on Friday, May 3.
The Lady Panthers were sat down in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the first inning as was the Dillon Lady Wildcats in the bottom of the first inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Lake City’s centerfielder made a good catch on MaKayla Huggins’ hit to retire her. Alyssa Lee was hit by a pitch to place her onto first base. Mariah Campbell was also hit by a pitch to place runners on first and second. Dillon’s runner was thrown out attempting to steal third. C. Grider garnered a walk. Haiden Eller was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mariah Campbell stole home to place Dillon onto the scoreboard. The inning ended with a strike out with the bases loaded.
Lake City was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the third inning.
After a pop up to short to start the bottom of the third inning, Makeena Meekins hit one to center and arrived safely at second. Paige Sherman garnered a walk, and a new pitcher arrived on the mound for Lake City. Makayla Huggins hit one to center for a double and a rbi. Alyssa Lee hit one between first and second and picked up a rbi as she stood on second base on the throw to home. The inning ended with Dillon up 3-0.
With 2 outs in the top of the fourth inning, Lake City’s #15 lined one to deep left for a double but was stranded on base as Lake City was retired.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Dillon’s #16 hit a grounder to short and arrived safely. After a Dillon strike out, Cierra Grice hit a line drive to short. Makeena Meekins garnered a walk to place runners on the corners. Paige Sherman hit one to left for a single and 2 rbi to give Dillon a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Mariah Campbell hit one up the middle for a lead-off single. She quickly stole second. C. Grider sac bunted to move the runner to second. A run scored to give Dillon a 6-0 lead.
Neither team scored in the sixth or seventh inning.
The Wildcats’ Paige Sherman had a hit, 2 walks, 2 rbi, and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances. Makeena Meekins had a double, a walk, a stolen base, and scored 2 runs in her 4 plate appearances. Makayla Huggins had 2 hits and a rbi in her 4 at bats. Alyssa Lee had a hit and a rbi in her 3 at-bats. Mariah Campbell had a hit, scored 2 runs, and stole 3 bases in her 3 at-bats. Haiden Eller had a hit in her 1 at-bat. Cierra Grice had a stolen base and a rbi in the game. K. Tanksley and W. Hughes each had a stolen base.
The Panthers’ C. Byrd had a double in her 3 at-bats.
Dillon’s Paige Sherman picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings, and allowed 1 hit, allowed no runs, struck out 12, and walked no one.
Lake City’s Kinsley Hanner took the loss. She pitched 4 and 1/3 innings and gave up 4 runs on 2 hits, struck out four, and walked 3. M. Thomas pitched 1.2 innings and allowed 5 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 1, and struck out 3.
Dillon committed 2 errors in the game.
