The Latta Vikings Dealt Lake View a 12-2 loss in the run-ruled 5-inning varsity baseball game played in Latta on Friday, April 17.
Latta took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning and added 3 runs in the second inning before Lake View placed a run onto the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. The Wild Gators added a run in the top of the fifth inning. Latta added 6 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Latta connected for 10 hits with C. Hyatt, Z. Lane, B. Berry, and L. Byrd each garnering 2 hits while F. Richardson and L. Huggins each garnered a hit. Z. Lane and B. Berry each connected for a triple. Berry also had 2 rbi. Zach Lane managed to get on base in all 4 of his plate appearances.
Latta’s C. Hyatt, J. Durant, L. Huggins, and C. Price each stole a base in the game.
Latta’s Mason Weatherford picked up the win. He pitched 5 innings and allowed 7 hits, 2 runs of which 1 was earned, walked no one, and struck out 6 of the 23 batters he faced.
Lake View’s Zaiden Burroughs had a double, a single, and 2 rbi. Ian Capps had a double while H. Smith, B. King, C. Moody, and H. Lee each had a single.
The Wild Gators’ B. King pitched 3 innings. He allowed 8 hits, 6 runs of which 2 were earned, walked 3, hit 2 batters with a pitch, and struck out 3 of the 23 batters he faced. Ian Capps pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 2 hits, 6 runs that were not earned, hit 2 batters with a pitch. and struck out 1 of the 10 batters he faced.
Latta is 16-4 overall and 6-2 in Region play and in second place. Lake View is 14-4 overall and 8-2 in Region play and in first place.
Lake View will travel to Mullins on Monday, April 20, for a 7:15 p.m. game while Latta will travel to Turbeville to face East Clarendon on Monday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m.
