The Hartsville Lady Red Foxes defeated the Dillon Lady Wildcats 8-3 in varsity softball action played in Dillon on Monday, April 27.
The Lady Red Foxes placed a run onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning and the score remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning when Hartsville crossed home plate 5 times to take a 6-0 lead. The Lady Wildcats scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hartsville responded with 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning. Dillon responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Dillon Wildcats connected for 7 hits in the game with Makeena Meekins picking up 2 singles and scoring a run in her 4 at-bats. Jayla Wright had 2 hits and was hit by a pitch in her 4-plate appearances. Zoee Chavis had a single, a rbi, a stolen base, and scored a run in her 4 at-bats.
Dillon committed 5 errors in the game, and Hartsville committed 2 errors.
Dillon’s Zoee Chavis pitched 4.1 innings and allowed 4 hits, 6 runs of which 2 were earned, walked 2, hit 1 with a pitch, and struck out 3 of the 22 batters she faced. Jayla Wright pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 4 hits, 2 runs that were not earned, walked 2, and struck out 2 of the 15 batters she faced.
Hartsville had 10 hits in the game including A. Byrd who had 2 singles, a rbi, scored a run, and had 3 stolen bases in her 4 at-bats. E. Hudson had 2 singles and scored a run in her 4 at-bats. A. Gainey had a hit, 2 rbi, and scored a run in her 4 at-bats. M. Mickey had a double, a walk, and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances. Z. Gray had a single and a rbi in her 2 at-bats. M. Harvey had a home run, a rbi, and scored 2 runs in her 4 at-bats. M. Starling had a single, 2 walks, and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances. T. Thompson had a double, a walk, was hit by a pitch, a rbi, and scored a run in her 4 plate appearances.
Hartsville’s H. Amerson pitched 5.1 innings and allowed 7 hits, 3 runs of which only 1 was earned, walked 1, and struck out 2 of the 25 batters she faced. K. Gainey pitched 1 inning and allowed no hits and no runs of the 4 batters she faced.
Dillon will host Marion on Thursday, April 30, at 6:00 p.m.
