The Shannon Wilkerson Gym in Marion was bustling with activity on Tuesday morning as children were enjoying the DJ Rowell Foundation Rockem Experience Camp from July 6th-9th.
More than 200 children were divided up in groups learning some basketball fundamentals while having loads of fun.
DJ Rowell, the foundation’s namesake, is there as the camp leader and has a team of volunteers that are coaching the children, helping with providing breakfast and lunch, and more.
The camp is completely free to the children who attend, and each child gets some DJ Rowell Foundation Rockem Experience Camp swag to take home.
The camp is about more than basketball. It helps children learn respect, get motivated to achieve their dreams, learn to work as a team, and be exposed to positive role models all while having a good time.
One youth ambassador spoke about the confidence that DJ Rowell had inspired in him and how he uses this and leadership skills he has learned to help the younger children.
On Friday, July 10th, the public will have an opportunity to come to Charity Game Day. The schedule is as follows:
* Kids All-Star Game: 5:00–6:45 p.m.
* Free Throw & 3-Point Contests: 6:45–7:15 p.m.
* Co-Ed Charity Game: 7:30 p.m.
The proceeds benefit the D.J. Rowell Foundation’s youth programs. See the DJ Rowell Foundation page on Facebook for admission and contest information.
