The Dillon Wildcats lost 6-5 to the Aynor Blue Jackets in varsity baseball action played in Dillon on Tuesday, April 21.
Dillon was leading 5-1 going into the seventh inning. Dillon’s Hank Grider had pitched a great game with 10 strike outs, no walks, and 1 earned run when he met his 110-pitch limit. Aynor had an exceptional seventh inning and scored 5 runs to win 6-5. Grider had a no decision and is still 7-0 for the season.
Aynor got onto the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth inning when Aynor’s #3 led off with a single to right field. Aynor’s #4 hit one to right for a single and a rbi.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Dillon’s #1, Bryson Davis, hit a grounder to short for a single followed by #2, John Coley Bohachic, who hit one to center for a single to place runners on first and second. Dillon’s #17, Aiden Lancaster, bunted to the pitcher who committed an error to load the bases for Dillon. With 2 outs on Dillon, the Wildcats’ #7 hit a chopper to short, and 2 runs scored to give Dillon a 2-1 lead after 4 innings of play.
After 5 innings of play, Dillon was up 2-1.
The Dillon Wildcats picked up 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. After a pop-up by #8, Chuck Green, for out 1, #4, Nibras Harrison, garnered a walk. Dillon’s #7 hit a line drive to center for a single to place base runners on first and second. One of Dillon’s base runners was caught between third and home in a run-down after slipping while rounding third base for out 2 but a run scored. #10, Hank Grider, hit one to left field that hit the fence and was good for a double and a rbi to give Dillon a 4-1 lead. Dillon’s #5, Jaden Williamson, hit one to deep right for a double and a rbi to give Dillon a 5-1 lead. Aynor’s #7 took the mound. Dillon’s #7 hit a grounder to short to end the inning.
Aynor managed to cross home plate 5 times in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead.
Dillon did not manage to score in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Aynor left with a come-from-behind 6-5 win.
12-4 Dillon will travel to face 13-3 Aynor on Friday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m., to face the Blue Jackets for the region title.
