The Carvers Bay Bears edged the Latta Vikings 68-67 in overtime in varsity basketball played in Latta on Wednesday, February 11.
Latta had an 18-8 lead after the first quarter of play. The Vikings had a slim 1-point lead, 28-27 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter, Latta was up 40-33. After regulation, the score was knotted at 55.
The Latta Vikings led in the overtime period until the Carvers Bay Bears knotted the score at 61. Latta sank a 2-point basket followed by anther 2-point basket, and another 2-point basket to go up 67-61. Carvers Bay’s Kenard Heyward sank a 3-point basket followed by a 2-point basket to cut Latta’s lead to 1 point, 67-66. Carvers Bay sank the last 2-point basket of the game to claim the 1-point overtime win.
The Bears are in first place in Region 6 A with a 21-4 overall record and are 12-0 in Region play.
Latta has an overall record of 15-5 and 8-3 in Region 6 A and in third place.
Latta will travel to Lake View today, Thursday, February 12, for a 7:30 p.m. game.
