Anderson Brothers Bank presented a check to Dillon County EMS to purchase and replace three coolers and blood transport bags that can transport blood around the county to patients.
Dillon County EMS is the primary 911 response service that provides medical care and transport to the citizens and visitors of Dillon County. Since February 2024, they have been providing Low titer O positive whole blood to patients who meet the criteria. Since the start of Dillon County E.M.S. Blood program, they have transfused 32 units of blood.
The Whole blood is transported by the shift supervisors in a Quick Response Vehicle so they can better get the blood within the County whenever needed. The Whole Blood has to be transported in a Credo cooler that has to keep the temperature between 2 to 6 degrees Celsius. The coolers are over two years old and are close to expiration. Dillon County E.M.S. has an agreement with McLeod Dillon Lab that swaps our coolers daily.
The donation is to replace the three existing coolers along with a new blood transport bag that they can transport the blood warmer and the whole blood together instead of in separate bags. The Life-Flow infuser will allow Paramedics to rapidly infuse whole blood quicker to the patient.
