The visiting West Bladen Knights handed Latta a 12-2 loss in varsity baseball on Friday, March 20, in Latta.
The Knights led off the top of the first inning by placing 2 runs onto the scoreboard. The Knights’ leadoff hitter did his job. He singled to right to get the offense going. J. Hepler homered to give West Bladen the 2-0 lead. The Knights left men on the corners.
In the bottom of the first inning, Z. Lane struck out watching. Fisher Richardson flew out to right. L. Byrd flew out to right to give T. Lewis on the mound an easy 1-2-3.
Neither team could muster a score in the second or third innings.
The Knights added 4 runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Latta responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 6-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, West Bladen placed 6 runs onto the scoreboard to take 1 12-2 lead.
Latta could not muster a score and the game ended with the run-ruled sixth inning.
T. Lewis picked up the win for West Bladen.
Latta’s Fisher Richardson and Mason Weatherford each garnered a single in the game. J. Welch connected for a double.
West Bladen had 11 hits in the game, including a home run, a double, and a single by J. Hepler. J. Bryan had 2 singles. A. Davis had a single and a double. J. Smith had a double. T. Lewis and A. Trinidad each had a single. W. Hilburn added a single.
West Bladen’s J. Bryan, A. Davis, and J. Smith each had 2 stolen bases. C. Bryan, C. Chadwick, H. Hester, and J. Hepler each had a stolen base.
West Bladen’s head coach is Bladen Strickland. He is assisted by Trevor Lesane.
Latta’s head coach is Robbie Brown. His assistant coaches are Austin Morrell and Aaron Miles.
Latta is 5-3 overall and will travel to Wilson on Tuesday, March 23, for a 6:00 p.m. game.
West Bladen is 7-1 overall and will travel to North Myrtle on Saturday, March 21, for a 2:30 p.m. game.
