Marion County Airport Holds Fly In

The Marion County Airport held a Fly In on Sunday, February 22, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The Fly In scheduled for last Sunday was canceled due to forecasted inclement weather. Although the weather was not conducive for a Fly In, the event took place today. Some were able to Fly In while others drove in.
Rev. James Smith, pastor of East Dillon Baptist Church, offered a prayer for the event and for breakfast. Afterwards, he returned to his church in Dillon for scheduled services for today.
Fellowship was enjoyed by all before and after a delicious breakfast prepared by Charles Taylor, Andy Taylor, and Ashley Brumble, and others. Everyone enjoyed learning about the Marion County Airport. The Marion County Airport began as a general aviation airport that opened in 1963 as a grass strip. Since that time, there have been many new and exciting projects.
Since Taylor took over the operations of the airport, he has made many improvements. His vision has been accepted by Marion County and upgrades have been made with more upcoming ones.
Charles Taylor introduced Senator Kent Williams who spoke about the airport. He thanked Taylor for his work and improvements at the airport. He complemented Taylor on his leadership and his vision. Senator Williams remarked that Marion County supported Taylor. “Charles knows how to find and get funds”, stated Senator Williams. Senator Williams also thanked Marion County’s Treasurer, Alta Dubose. Senator Williams also remarked “Charles could not do what he does without the support of his wife, Loretta.”
Charles Taylor thanked Senator Kent Williams for his comments.
Taylor spoke briefly of the improvements at the airport such as a brand-new apron and a recently resurfaced runway, Shell jet fuel, 100LL Avgas, and aircraft storage. The airport also offers a courtesy van for corporate executives and business personnel. Taylor spoke briefly of the upcoming approved projects. Taylor also thanked everyone for coming to the Fly In.
