DILLON COUNTY’S CONNECTION TO BABE RUTH
Today, April 27, is National Babe Ruth Day, but not many people realize that Dillon County has an interesting connection to Babe Ruth. Norman Alexis “Bub” McMillan of Latta was a teammate of Babe Ruth when McMillan played as a infielder from 1922-1925 for the New York Yankees. McMillan even served as a pinch runner for Babe Ruth. McMillan is also known for hitting one of the shortest homeruns in major league baseball history in 1929 when he was playing for the Chicago Cubs. The homerun was only approximately 300 feet from home plate.
