The Latta Vikings defeated the visiting Hannah-Pamplico Raiders 54-31 in the high-scoring game played in Latta on Friday, October 24, on a cold evening.
Latta kicked off to Hannah-Pamplico to start the game. The Raiders #3 signaled a fair catch on their own 42-yard line. The Raiders punted on fourth down with Latta’s #2, Jayden Alford, returning the punt to Latta’s own 35-yard line. After Fischer Richardson carried on 2 consecutive plays, a holding penalty gave the Vikings a first down. The Vikings followed with a completed pass to Mason Weatherford for a first down followed by another first down by Fischer Richardson. Joe’Maurie Galloway capped on the drive with an 8-yard touchdown with7:26 remaining in the first quarter. The 2-point conversion failed. Latta led 6-0.
The Raiders were forced to punt on fourth down, and the football sailed into the end zone for a touchback.
Latta began possession on their own 20-yard line. The first quarter ended with Latta on top 6-0.
With 11:50 remaining in the second quarter, Fischer Richardson scored a touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. Latta led 12-0.
The Raiders faced a fourth down and 9 yards to go and elected to kick a field goal with 7:29 remaining in the second quarter. Latta led 12-3.
Latta’s Fischer Richardson capped off a drive with a 5-yard TD with 3:51 remaining in the first half. The 2-point pass conversion attempt failed. Latta led 18-3.
The Raiders added a touchdown and a PAT to cut Latta’s lead.
With 3:18 remaining in the second quarter, Latta’s Irangabiye Johnson scored on a long run. The 2-point pass completion to Jayden Alford was good. Latta led 26-10.
Latta recovered an onside kick on the 50-yard line but had to punt on fourth down.
At halftime, Latta was up 26-10.
The Vikings received the kickoff to begin the third quarter. Latta capped off the drive with Fischer Richardson scoring from the 1/2-yard line with 6:18 remaining in the third quarter. The 2-point conversion pass was no good as it was caught out-of-bounds. Latta led 32-10.
With 5:18 remaining in the third quarter, the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders hit pay dirt with a 50-yard TD pass. The PAT was good. Latta led 32-17.
Hannah-Pamplico quickly scored again after recovering a fumble. The Raiders’ quarterback scampered for a touchdown in this fast-paced quarter. Hannah-Pamplico’s #6’s PAT was good. Latta’s lead was 8 points, 32 to 24.
Latta scored Irangabiye Johnson’s end around rushing touchdown of 32 yards with 2:05 remaining in the third quarter. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. Latta led 38 to 24.
The Vikings’ defense prevailed on the next offensive series of Hannah-Pamplico.
Latta, too, turned the football over.
With 8:30 remaining in the game, Hannah-Pamplico’s #18 scored a touchdown with a reception and run. The PAT was good. Latta led by 7 points, 38 to 31.
With 7:03 remaining in the game, the Vikings’ Fischer Richardson scored. The 2-point pass reception was good. Latta led 46-31.
With about 2 minutes remaining in the game, Latta tacked on another touchdown and PAT to go up 54-31.
The 7-1 Latta Vikings will close out the regular season in Johnsonville on Friday, October 31, at 7:30 p.m.
