The Latta Lady Vikings came from behind to edge the Lake View Lady Wild Gators 45-42 in the waning moments of the varsity basketball playoff game held in Latta on Friday, February 20.
From the start to the finish, these two rivals gave all they had in this exciting matchup of two teams in Dillon County. The fans enjoyed an action-packed game.
Lake View jumped out to 7-0 lead before Latta’s Kaliya Herman connected for a 3-point basket. With 4:11 remaining in the first quarter, Lake View held a 10-3 lead. Lake View’s Shayla Johnson sank a 2-point basket and a free throw to give Lake View a 13-3 lead with 3:36 remaining in the first quarter. Latta’s Aliyah Tisdale sank a free throw prior to Sophia Rogers connecting for a 3-point basket from the corner. With 2:57 remaining in the first quarter, Lake View was up 16-4. Lake View tacked on another basket, and Latta scored a 2-point basket. Lake View’s Callie Smith added a free throw. The Wild Gators’ Aura Green laid one in for 2 points. After the first quarter of play, Lake View held a 21-6 lead. Lake View committed 4 fouls while Latta committed 5 fouls in the first quarter of play.
In the second quarter of play, Latta scored 6 points and by halftime, Lake View was up 13 points, 25-12. Lake View was guilty of 5 fouls while Latta committed 3 fouls.

Latta’s Summer Page sank 2 free throws, and Aliyah Tisdale connected for a free throw to cut Lake View’s lead to 4 points, 35-31 with 5:45 remaining in the third quarter. With 4:46 remaining in the final quarter, the Wild Gators held a slim 2-point lead, 35-33. With 3:12 remaining in the game, Ke’nyah Page scored a 2-point basket to tie the score at 36. With 2:56 remaining, Lake View was up 1-point, 37-36, on a free throw by Zy’Kiera Waters. With 2:36 remaining, Latta was up 38-37. Lake View’s Sophia Rogers hit a 3-point basket from the corner to go up 40-38. Latta’s Summer Page sank a free throw to cut the lead to 1 point with 1:50 remaining in the game. With 1:26 remaining, Aliyah Tisdale sank a basket for 2 points to give the Lady Vikings a 1-point lead, 41-40. Zy’Kiera Waters tied the score at 41 with a free throw with 1:04 remaining. With 58.9 seconds left in the game, Kirsten McClellan sank a free throw to give the Wild Gators a 42-41 lead. Latta’s Kaliya Herman tied the game at 42 with a free throw with 54.7 seconds remaining. Kaliya Herman connected for 2 free throws with 38.9 seconds remaining to give Latta a 44-42 lead. With 9.4 seconds, Summer Page sank a free throw for the final score of the game to give Latta a 45-42 come-from-behind win!
