The Dillon Lady Wildcats edged the Marion Lady Swamp Foxes 4-3 in varsity softball played in Dillon.
The Lady Swamp Foxes wasted little time in placing a run on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when M. Williams doubled, scoring a run. However, The Lady Wildcats responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. Marion responded with a run in the top of the second to knot the score at 2 thanks to a Wildcat error. The game remained tied at 2 until the bottom of the fourth inning when Mariah Campbell singled and Tristan Dove singled, and both scored to go up 4-2.
A run was removed from Dillon in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 4-3 in favor of Dillon. In the sixth inning each team added a run to the scoreboard. After 6 innings, Dillon was up 4-3. The seventh inning was scoreless.
The Marion Lady Swamp Foxes had 7 hits in the game while holding Dillon to 4 hits.
Each team committed 2 errors in the game.
Dillon’s Paige Sherman picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 6 hits, 3 runs of which 2 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 10.
H. Lebiedz took the loss for Marion. She pitched 6 innings and gave up 5 hits, 4 runs of which 2 were earned, walked 2, and struck out 6.
Dillon’s M. Huggins (C) had a double, a walk, and 2 rbi in 3 plate appearances. Mariah Campbell (LF) had a hit and 2 rbi in 3 at-bats. Paige Sherman (P) had a hit and a walk in 3 plate appearances. Cierra Grice had a hit and scored a run in 3 at-bats. Makayla Meekins (CF) and A. Lee (3B) scored a run. A. Lee was also hit by a pitch.
