Hemingway, SC–Stephen Paul Rouse, 47, husband of Jewell Altman Rouse, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at MUSC Health Black River after a brief illness.
A beloved son of Paul and Margaret Lane Rouse, Stephen was born on June 19, 1978, in Marion, South Carolina. His early years were spent growing up in Dillon, South Carolina. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend who was well-liked and respected both socially and professionally.
After graduation from Dillon High School, Stephen went on to attend Florence-Darlington Technical College, where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He later dedicated over two decades of his professional life as a truck driver for H&S Oil Company. In addition to his career, Stephen was an excellent flooring contractor who took pride in his craftsmanship during his spare time.
A man of many passions, Stephen found joy in hunting and fishing. He was a proud member of the Winyah Bass Masters fishing club. Some of his greatest times, however, were those he spent riding motorcycles with his beloved wife of 20 years. Above all else, he cherished spending time with his three precious daughters.
Stephen’s faith was an integral part of his life. He attended Johnsonville Pentecostal Holiness Church and actively contributed to the church community over the years by teaching Sunday School and working with the youth group. His dedication to his faith and family left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In addition to his devoted wife and loving parents, Stephen is survived by his three daughters: Katelyn, Rosalyn, and Stevie Rouse; his brother, Dwayne Rouse; his father- and mother-in-law Michael and Ann Altman; and his brother and sister-in-law Mark and Jessica Altman. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family invites friends to visit with them at their home located at 473 Indiantown Swamp Road, Hemingway South Carolina, 29554 at any time.
Services, directed by Morris Funeral Home, will be private.
