The Historic Marion Revitalization Association held their first “Rise and Shine” of the year at Hulon’s Jewelers in downtown Dillon on Wednesday morning.
Kelly Page, Executive Director, discussed some of the plans for the nest few months. Events include late night shopping on February 6th; the Swamp Fox Chili Cookoff and car show on February 22 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. which will include a bonus farmers market day; the farmers market on March 1st, late night shopping on March 6th; the first Music on Main Concert of the Year with the Marion Chamber featuring the band, Painted Man; and Farmers Markets on March 15 and 29th.
Page reported on the progress with those businesses that have received facade grants. She also spoke about their “Wayback Wednesday” series featuring local businesses on their page on Facebook. She said she felt the video format of this series would gain more attention.
The host, Jason Hulon of Hulon’s Jewelers, said the business had been in Marion fro 67 years and was one of the longest continuously operated businesses second to Zeman’s. He introduced his staff and encouraged those in attendance to shop there for Valentine;s Day. he also thanked Mr. Johnny Floyd of Anderson Brothers Bank for his support of the Pee Dee Academy Shooting Team.
Mayor Ashley Brady also echoed his compliments to Anderson Brothers and how well they support the community. He noted that the Small Business Person of the Year was T-Roy’s Restaurant. He said the collaborative effort in Marion kept it a pretty and viable town.
After Mayor Brady’s remarks, everyone enjoyed breakfast and socializing.
