The Dillon Lady Wildcats edged the Georgetown Lady Bulldogs 5-4 in varsity softball action played in Georgetown on Tuesday, April 9.
Dillon jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Makayla Huggins doubled and a run scored.
There was no scoring again in this battle until Georgetown tied the score with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Felt singled. Dillon responded in the top of the seventh inning when Alyssa tripled and a run scored and then a tag up by Lee followed to score a run to take a 3-1 short-lived lead as Georgetown knotted the score in the bottom of the seventh inning on a single by H. Moore to force extra innings in the game.
Neither team crossed home plate in the eighth inning. In the top of the ninth inning Dillon grabbed the lead after Georgetown committed an error and Lee hit into a fielder’s choice, each scoring a run that added 2 runs that allowed Dillon to go up 5-3. However, Georgetown responded with a run in the bottom of the ninth inning but came up short as Dillon claimed the victory.
Dillon’s Paige Sherman pitched 9 innings and faced 36 batters. She allowed 6 hits, walked no one, and struck out 13 in the battle.
K. Jordan took the loss for Georgetown. She pitched 9 innings and allowed 6 hits, 4 runs of which 3 were earned, walked no one, and struck out 11.
Each team had 6 hits in the game.
Dillon’s A. Lee (3B) had 2 hits, 2 rbi, and scored a run in 4 at-bats. Cierra Grice had 2 hits and scored a run in her 4 at-bats. Paige Sherman had a hit and scored a run in 4 at-bats. Mariah Campbell (LF) picked up a rbi in the game while Makayla Meekins (CF) scored a run.
H. Moore led Georgetown with 2 hits and 2 rbi in 4 at-bats. Felt had a hit and scored a run in 4 at-bats. E. Daniels had a hit, was hit by a pitch, and stole a base in 3 at-bats. H. Fulton had a hit in 3 at-bats. K. Jordan had a hit in 4 at-bats. M. Smith had a hit in 4 at-bats. H. Britton scored a run.
Dillon will host Latta on Wednesday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. for Senior Night for Dillon.
