The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a recent increase in motor vehicle thefts and attempted thefts in the area.
Deputies have observed a rise in incidents involving Dodge vehicles, particularly Dodge trucks. In several cases, suspects have gained entry by breaking the rear sliding window, allowing quick access to steal the vehicle within seconds.
All reported vehicles were taken from residential yards. While some properties were equipped with surveillance cameras, others were not.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and ensure their vehicles are properly secured at all times, including when parked at home.
The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office recommends the following safety tips for all vehicle owners:
• Do not leave your vehicle running while unattended, even for short periods (such as at gas stations, convenience stores, or while warming up your vehicle).
• Always lock your vehicle and ensure all windows are fully closed.
• Park in well-lit, highly visible areas whenever possible.
• Consider using anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks, vehicle alarms, or other security features.
• If possible, park within view of a surveillance camera that is set to record continuously (not motion-activated only).
• Report any suspicious activity around vehicles or in parking areas immediately, including any unusual vehicles repeatedly driving through neighborhoods.
Community cooperation plays a critical role in preventing crime.
The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office asks residents to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911.
