Dillon County gardeners are invited to compete in the 2026 Dillon County Tomato Contest. The decades old tradition of friendly community competition returns this summer with cash prizes, free educational classes, and a festive awards banquet to crown “the Best Tomato Grower in Dillon County”.
The contest welcomes Dillon County residents in three categories: Youth (ages 7–17), Adult Container Grown, and Adult Field Grown. Any tomato variety is acceptable except cherry, grape, or paste types.
Registration is $10 and must be submitted in person at the Dillon County Extension Office, 200 South 5th Avenue B, by May 26, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. Full rules and registration are available at tinyurl.com/dillontomato26 or by calling (843) 774-8218.
Judges will visit participants’ properties on the morning of June 29, evaluating four designated plants per contestant on quality, color, appearance, pest and disease pressure, and total yield.
Winners will be announced at the Awards Banquet on June 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dillon Wellness Center. Registration includes two tickets; additional tickets at the desk are $5. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish or dessert and a door prize ($15–$20 value).
Optional educational meetings on growing summer vegetables are scheduled for April 28 and May 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. These free sessions give participants a chance to get advice on growing your garden. You do not need to be a contestant to participate. Call to reserve your spot (843) 774-8218.
For questions, contact Justin Foxworth at (864) 986-1478 or Alexis Daymon at (843) 774-8218.
