City of Dillon Fire Engineer Hailed As Hero For Rescuing Kitten From Storm Drain

A City of Dillon fire engineer is being hailed as a hero today for saving a kitten from a storm drain last night.
Darrell Zeller said about 9:30 p.m. last night, a lady in distress called the fire department about the kitten. She had been unable to get in touch with animal control and called 9-1-1, who gave her the number of the fire department.
Zeller answered the phone and told the lady that the fire department didn’t rescue cats, but the lady’s tears and Zeller’s heart for animals won out so he headed over to the local Tiger Mart, where the kitten was stuck in the drain, to see what he could do.
Zeller put down a can of food, but that wasn’t enough to lure the kitten out of the drain. Zeller put his hand in the drain and the kitten grabbed his finger with his little paws. Zeller was eventually able to get the kitten out.
Zeller estimates the kitten, which was nicknamed Taco, is about 6 weeks old. The kitten is now in the custody of the Dillon County Animal Shelter.
