CELEBRATING WOMEN: Casey Demery Pitts

Casey Demery Pitts
Latta, SC

Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself and/or your personal journey.
A. Latta has always been home to me. I was very active with extracurricular activities while in high school- I was a trumpet soloist in the marching band, a member of the Math Team, I played volleyball, and was the editor of the yearbook my senior year. During high school, I won Teen Miss Latta and Dillon County’s Junior Miss. I spent my weekends waiting tables at Shuler’s BBQ.
I graduated from Latta High School in 1998 as Salutatorian and graduated from Francis Marion University in 2002 – Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Business Administration Degree with an emphasis in Marketing. While in college, I began an internship with Arborone Farm Credit and later became the VP of Human Resources. After 13 years, I decided to become a stay-at-home mom. Once my youngest was born, I started back to work with SNB Construction of Dillon, LLC – a commercial general contractor serving North and South Carolina.

Q. What is in one of your biggest accomplishments?
A. My two daughters are my biggest accomplishments- Savannah Sherman and Sadie Pitts.

Q. Who has been an influential figure in your life and why?
A.
My parents have been the most influential people in my life. They brought me up in a Christian home and made Church a priority. I am thankful for that, because as we journey through all that life throws at us- our Faith is the only thing we have to depend on.

Q. What is the best advice you have ever received?
A. Stay close to God- in everything first seek HIM (prayer and scripture) And He will direct your path.

Q. Fun fact about yourself.
A.
I love the outdoors! Especially watching the sunrise and sunset. One of the prettiest sunsets was at Clingmans Dome, which is the highest peak in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park- elevation 6,643 feet.

Q. Hobbies/What you like to do in your spare time?
A.
In my spare time I enjoy traveling to small mountain towns and exploring trails, waterfalls and antique shops. I also enjoy working out and reading a good novel.

Q. What is the key to success?
A.
I laugh sometimes when I am asked this question. Because – it’s crazy how your view of success changes as you mature; it evolves. In my 20’s- in my “perfectionist era” I would’ve said- success is measured by your wage, your title, how fast you climb the corporate ladder, your house, and all this materialistic “stuff” that really doesn’t matter at all.
Now, twenty years later- in my “realistic/humbled era” success looks a little different: more like having a loving, happy HOME that’s peaceful- Being healthy and having healthy children and family. Realizing that your only competition is yourself; Being better than I was yesterday- mentally, physically and most importantly- Spiritually.
