Candlemaker Speaks To Yellow Jessamine Garden Club

The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club (YJGC) met on Thursday, February 12, at the home of Mrs. Betty Hubbard. Ms. Glenda Campbell, president of the YJGC, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and thanking them for coming. After a blessing of the food, attendees enjoyed delicious snacks during a time of fellowship.
The speaker of the meeting was Stephanie Smith, entrepreneur of McKellar-Smith Home and Candle. Smith spoke with the group about deciding to retire about a year ago to turn a hobby of hand-poured candle-making into a business. Smith’s business, based in Scranton, South Carolina, is named in honor of both sets of her grandparents.
As an entrepreneur, Smith she has learned about the best ways to infuse herbal scents into the wax. Each hand-poured, olive oil wax candle is skin safe and phthalate and cruelty-free.
The Garden Club members learned about some of Smith’s favorite natural scents, which includes tobacco and honey (in her grandfather’s memory), Leola’s iris (named for her grandmother), bergamot and coriander, coastal blue, blue sky and sea, and lavender.
The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club of Dillon is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., South Atlantic Region of National Garden Clubs, Inc., The Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc., and Coastal District of the Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc.
