The VFW Post 6091 will award two scholarships to Dillon County graduates. The George Spradley Scholarship is $1,000 to be awarded to a graduate from any Dillon County High School. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an accredited two-year community college, four-year college, or university. Applicants are invited to write an essay about a family member’s military service and reflect on how that experience has positively influenced their lives. The George Spradley Scholarship applications are available in the Guidance Offices of all Dillon County High Schools. The application deadline is April 15, 2026. The second opportunity is the Jim Chavis Robotics Scholarship, which awards $500 to 12th-grade students enrolled in the robotics program at Latta High School. Applicants are required to submit an essay on robotics and their vision of its role in our society’s future. The submission deadline is May 1, 2026. Guidelines for the Jim Chavis Scholarship can be obtained from the robotics teachers or by emailing Anthony Burden at [email protected].
