Tomorrow, January 5th, marks the sixth anniversary of the tragic death of 26-year-old Jackson Winkeler, who died while serving in the line of duty on January 5, 2020 at the Florence Regional Airport in Florence, South Carolina. Local first responders will walk six miles from the Latta Police Department to the Dillon County Judicial Center in a memorial ruck. The six miles is in honor of Jackson’s unit number six. The event begins at 8 a.m., and the step-off is at 8:30 a.m. and will go down Main Street in Latta, down Highway 301, and onto the Old Latta Highway to the Judicial Center. Please keep this in mind if you travel this way during this time and take a moment to remember Jackson Winkeler and what he meant and still means to the community.
