Latta Edges East Clarendon 6-5

The Latta Vikings defeated the East Clarendon Wolverines on Tuesday, May 14, in the varsity baseball playoffs.
East Clarendon was sat down in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the first inning.
Latta had a single to left followed by a Seth Minshew single to left with a rbi that placed Latta onto the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
In the top of the second inning, an error place #12 for East Clarendon on first base. East Clarendon’s #8 arrived safely due to an error to place runners on the corners. The Wolverines’ Dawson Beard hit a grounder by third for a single and a run scored. The game was knotted at 1 after 1 and ½ half innings of play.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Wolverines’ Dawson Beard garnered a walk, #4 was hit by a pitch to place runners on first and second. A passed ball moved the runners to second and third with only 1 out. East Clarendon scored on a balk to go up 2-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Latta’s #13 lines one to center for a lead-off single. The Vikings’ #14 lines one down third base line for a double to place runners on second and third with no outs. After 2 straight strike outs, the Wolverines placed #9 on the mound. Latta left 2 stranded.
Latta tied the game in the bottom of the fifth at 2 on a Minshew single.
In the top of the seventh inning, W. Paertee singled that scored 2 runs. A ground out by Beard followed that helped East Clarendon go up 5-2.
The Latta Vikings took the lead 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh when Mason Weatherford was hit by a pitch, Preston Brown singled, Nick Lane walked, and an error by the Wolverines, with each scoring a run.
Caden Lee picked up the win for Latta. He allowed 1 hit, 3 runs of which 1 was earned, struck out 1, and walked 3. Fisher Richardson started the game for the Vikings. He pitched 6 innings and allowed 2 hits, 2 runs of which 1 was earned, struck out 6, and walked 2.
Cooper Goff started the game for the Wolverines. He pitched 3 innings and allowed 4 hits, 1 run, struck out no one, and walked 1.
Latta committed 5 errors in the game, and East Clarendon committed only 1 error.
Latta had 9 hits in the game. Seth Minshew had 2 hits, 2 rbi, scored a run, and was hit by a pitch in his 4 plate appearances. Fisher Richardson had a double, a single, scored a run, and stole a base in his 3 at-bats. P. Brown had 2 hits and a rbi in his 4 at-bats. B. Berry had a hit, a walk, and scored a run in his 4 plate appearances. Mason Weatherford had a double, a rbi, scored a run, and was hit by a pitch in his 4 plate appearances. Eli Jones had a hit and scored a run in his 3 at-bats. Nick Lane garnered 2 walks and a rbi in his 4 plate appearances. J. Bley had a walk and scored a run in his 2 plate appearances.
East Clarendon’s W. Paeertee had a hit and 2 rbi in his 4 at-bats. Dawson Beard had a hit, 2 rbi, a walk, and scored a run in his 4 plate appearances. C. McKenzie had a hit in 3 at-bats. M. Morris garnered a walk.
Lake View will host Latta today, Wednesday, May 15, at 5:00 p.m. in Lake View.
