VFW Post 6091 Canned Food Drive Held

The Dillon County VFW Post 6091, in partnership with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, recently hosted a Canned Food Drive at the VFW Post in Dillon on June 14, 2025, coinciding with the observance of Flag Day—an occasion that emphasizes patriotism and community spirit. This event served as a rallying point for community engagement and support, drawing participation from notable figures, including Senator Kent Williams and Councilwoman Detrice Dawkins. Additionally, members of Woodmen Life and numerous dedicated volunteers from the local community came together to foster a spirit of camaraderie and generosity. As donors arrived, they were greeted with warm smiles and a sense of purpose. Volunteers enthusiastically accepted contributions of non-perishable canned goods. To express gratitude for the generosity of donors, each person who contributed received a hearty serving of chicken bog along with an American flag symbolizing both national pride and appreciation for their support.

Senator Williams commended the collaborative efforts that brought together diverse members of the community, acknowledging the vital importance of this initiative in addressing the needs of veterans and local families facing food insecurity. The focused efforts of all involved resulted in an impressive collection of 952 cans of food, collectively weighing 915 pounds. Post 6091 and the Sheriff’s Office want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this meaningful cause. Your generous donations will be given to local food pantries, providing essential support to those experiencing food hardships in Dillon, Latta, and Lake View. This initiative not only underscores our commitment to assisting those in need but also strengthens the bonds of community, illustrating the impact of collective action in fostering a compassionate environment for all.
