Loris Lady Lions Shut Out The Wildcats

The Loris Lady Lions shut out the Dillon Lady Wildcats 7-0 in varsity softball action played in Dillon on Friday, April 26.
In the top of the second inning, Loris #1 singled one up the middle and quickly stole second base. Loris’ #22 hit a hopper to center for a single and a rbi to give Loris a 1-0 lead.
The Dillon Lady Wildcats continued to struggle at bat and after 2 innings of play was down 1-0.
The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth inning when the Loris Lady Lions’ bats came alive and scored 4 runs. The Lions’ #9, Emma Powell, hit a low pop fly between short and second for a single, and Loris’ #6 hit a grounder to third. The throw pulled the first baseman off the bag and #6 was safe to place runners on first and second. Loris’ #15 bunted safely to load the bases. The Lions’ #16 hit one over Dillon’s right fielder’s head for a triple and 3 rbi. In a run down between first and second, the runner was tagged out but a run scored to give Loris a 5-0 lead.
Loris’ pitcher faced only 3 Dillon batters in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The sixth inning was scoreless for both teams.
Dillon’s defense managed to quick out in the top of the seventh inning before Loris’ #7 punched one to right for a single. Loris’ pitcher, #1 a Charleston Southern commit, hit one over the right fielder’s head for a triple and a rbi. The final run scored on a passed ball. At the end of 6 and ½ innings of play, Dillon found themselves down 7-0.
Dillon’s lone hit was in the bottom of the seventh inning by Paige Sherman who hit a grounder that was too hot to handle.
The playoffs will begin in a few days.
