The Dillon Wildcats defeated Socastee 27-7 at Myrtle Beach on Friday, August 30.
Socastee’s #1 was on the receiving end of a 45-yard TD pass and the PAT was good in the first quarter. Dillon’s Domanick Felton had a 5-yard rushing TD, and Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good to knot the score at 7.
Zamarious Robertson had 2 TD passes.
At halftime, Dillon was up 20-7.
With 4 and ½ minutes left in the third quarter, Dillon faced a third down and 12. Rike Niyongabo grabbed a reception, and Dillon was penalized for a personal foul. Socastee was penalized on the next play for pass interference. Facing a third down and 2 yards to go, Jamarion Fling picked up a first down inside the 8-yard line of Socastee. Jamarion Fling rushed for 3 yards. Jamarion Fling scored with 2:09 remaining in the third quarter. The score was nullified due to a Dillon penalty. With third down and goal from the 14-yard line with 2;06 remaining in the third quarter, there was pass interference in the end zone. Dillon now faced a third and 6 followed by a fourth and goal from the 19. The Dillon Wildcats dropped the ball in the end zone on a pass. Socastee took over on their own 19-yard line.
Socastee got a first down on a Livingston reception for the Braves first down of the second half as time soon expired.
The third quarter ended with Dillon up 20-7. The Wildcats had controlled the third quarter and had maintained possession of most of the third quarter but were unable to score. In fact, in the third quarter Dillon had 22 plays from scrimmage while Socastee had only 7 plays from scrimmage. Dillon had 16 positive snaps and 6 penalties were in the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Braves faced a fourth down and 4 yards to go. The Braves punted. However, Daniel Capehart blocked the punt to give Dillon the football on Socastee’s 15-yard line.
Jamarion Fling gained 3 yards on first down. Rahmond Hamilton carried to the 5-yard line. Dillon faced a third down from the 6-yard line. Domanick Felton was stopped in the backfield. On fourth down and 5 yards to go from the 10-yard line with 9:26 remaining in the game, Dillon was stopped with an incomplete pass on the goal line.
Socastee took over on their own 5-yard line. Socastee faced a fourth down and 8 yards to go when Socastee’s #9’s punt was partially blocked by the Dillon Wildcats.
Dillon took over on Socastee’s 17-yard line. With 8:19 remaining in the game, there was a 10-yard holding penalty against the Wildcats to place the football on the 27-yard line. Dillon faced a first down and 20 yards to from the 27-yard line. Dillon committed a false start and was penalized another 5 yards. Dillon gained 12 yards to Socastee’s 20-yard line. Domanick Felton picked up 12 yards. Dillon now faced a third down and 1. Domanick Felton picked up a first down on Socastee’s 7-yard line. Domanick Felton scored from 7 yards with 7:12 remaining in the game for his second rushing TD of the night. After the score, Dillon was hit with yet another penalty. This time for delay of game. Stephen Rojas’ PAT was good. Dillon led 27-7.
After the kickoff, the Braves’ Hayes Hardwick fumbled on the first offensive play with 7 minutes left in the game.
Dillon took over but was unable to move the football. On fourth down and 12 yards to go with 4:45 remaining in the game, Socastee sacked Dillon’s quarterback and began on offense. Socastee picked up a first down to Dillon’s 46-yard line.
With 2:37 remaining in the game, Socastee punts from Dillon’s 47-yard line on fourth down and 11 yards to go. The punt rolled into the end zone on the corner with 1;29 remaining in the game. Dillon picked up 3 yards on first down followed by a 6-yard gain by Noah Singletary. After another penalty against Dillon, Noah Singletary carried to Socastee’s 32-yard line. Time expired.
On Friday, September 6, Dillon will travel to Wilson in Florence while Socastee will face Aynor.
