Western Sizzlin of Florence celebrated 40 “phenomenal” years today, August 19, at the restaurant.
Fred and Diane Sansbury opened the restaurant, which is located at 2688 David H. McLeod Blvd., Florence, in 1985. Diane said it has been a “phenomenal 40 years.” She said when the restaurant opened at this location there was nothing here except Magnolia Mall across the street and a Pizza Hut. Since their opening, growth in the area has exploded with hotels, other restaurants, and retail locations. Her son, Reed, and his family—wife, Niki, daughter, Holland; and son, Brennon, are currently carrying on the proud tradition of this family-owned restaurant and were part of today’s big celebration. We’re told that Brennon is particularly fond of the yeast rolls.
From 3:00-4:00 p.m., former employees were treated to a free meal. At 4:00 p.m., the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting with the family and Chamber ambassadors. Jay Lavrinc, the chamber’s director of membership relations, congratulated the Sansbury family on 40 years in the community and 35 years as a chamber member.
Reed Sansbury thanked everyone for coming out. “Florence has been really good to us,” Sansbury said.
The restaurant features Flamekist steaks, chicken, burgers and sandwiches, numerous sides and a la carte items, a bakery, and a huge buffet. A buffet to go is also available.
The restaurant is open Monday through Sunday from 10:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
