Two Robeson County Students Charged In School Threats In N.C.

Two Robeson County students have been charged in connection to the recent social media posts about violence in the school settings.
A 14-year-old Red Springs Middle School student has been charged in connection to a recent threat at Red Springs Middle School.
On Monday, September 23, 2024, Robeson County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to threats toward Red Springs Middle School. Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Investigators with assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit immediately started following up on information obtained. During the investigation, a person of interest was identified and located at their residence. A cell phone and other evidence was seized during the search of a residence.
A 13-year-old Community In Schools (CIS) student was charged after a post was shared about bringing a weapon to school.
On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Robeson County Sheriff’s Office received information about a threat to bring a weapon to the school. Robeson County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations were able to identify the student and retrieve the cell phone used during the threat. Pembroke Police Department assisted with the investigation.
“To those that think making threats towards others and later saying it was all a joke, rest assured we don’t see it that way. You will be held responsible for your actions and for that, there are consequences. You will be arrested and charged, accordingly,” said Sheriff Burnis Wilkins.
Sheriff Wilkins said that violence and the threat of violence will not be tolerated. “I urge parents and guardians to speak to your children and discuss repercussions associated with such acts. You must take action and monitor your children’s behavior, social media platforms, friends, after-school activities, and so on.”
The investigations are ongoing and more charges are likely. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile and Criminal Investigations Divisions are investigating the cases. Anyone with information about the cases is asked to contact the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-671-3170.
