Dr. Miranda E. Page, school counselor at Dillon Elementary School, and Cedric Page recently delivered forty-nine pounds (19.5 gallons) of pop top tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in Charleston, SC. The tabs had been removed from drink cans and collected by students/staff/community members during the 2023-2024 school year at East Elementary School and 2024-2025 school year at Dillon Elementary School. This was one of the service-learning projects that the students took part in as part of Dillon School District Four. The tabs will be recycled and used to help pay for lodging at the house for children that are receiving treatment at the Medical University in Charleston. The tabs are worth 50 cents a pound. Thirty-three gallons will cover the cost of housing for a family and seriously ill child for one night. One gallon of pop tabs weighs about 2.5 pounds. This little tab is like a gold nugget to the Ronald McDonald House in Charleston.
